The former Taguchi Residence, built in 1885, was the residence of Ukichi Taguchi (Teiken), a Meiji-era economist, historian, and politician, and still remains as a private residence in Nishikata, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exterior can be seen from the street, but the interior is not open to the public.
The house is located on a narrow, dead-end private road, so cars cannot enter. You cannot even walk through it.
As the house is located in a quiet residential area, please refrain from coming in large groups without prior notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This building is one of the registered tangible cultural properties, as is shown in the database of cultural heritage online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teiken<\/strong> is the pen name of Ukichi Taguchi<\/strong>, and Ryuson<\/strong> is the pen name of Bin Ueda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bin Ueda is famous for his translation of Carl Busse's poem \"\u00dcber den Bergen\", which is included in his collection of translated poems, \"Kaichioon\". He lived at the former Taguchi residence for a period of time, and this monument was erected to commemorate that time. Inscribed in the calligraphy of Hasegawa Nyozekan, the inscription reads, \"Teiken Ryuson residence\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This monument is located on the left at the end of the private road. Please do not enter the path further away as it is the property of a neighboring family. You cannot pass through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exterior can be viewed from the private road outside the fence, but if you are coming as a group, please be sure to contact us in advance as we need to notify the neighborhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
